The flying fox is wrapped in its wings, strong and secure in itself and its home tree. The background is the colours of bark, representing the traditional surface for painting. The red ochre and yellow ochre represent the earth, the link to land and place. The branches are also pathways between the two circles of dots, which symbolise meeting places. The kids and I had rescued fruit bats and the banksia tree was at my front gate.
