Young Southern Humpback Whale on its migrating journey off Ballina. Each whale can be identified by the individual pattern on the underside of its tail. That pattern is called its fingerprint. When diving its tail is photographed from behind by Researchers and small skin flakes gathered from the water to identify its DNA
