John McCormick Bio

Born Brisbane, Qld, 1944
After an early career as a graphic designer in the advertising industry in Australia and New Zealand travelled to UK and lived in Cornwell. Travels in Morocco and India then back to the North Coast in 1975. John and his wife Denise were part of the ‘Back to Country’, an owner builder simplify life movement that has been well documented. They still are. John’s work as a photographer began at that time.
This body of work (largely traditional Black and White) includes a documentation of this ‘alternative' lifestyle. It has introduced the artist to a world of performance, circus, dance, theatre, music and the wonderful characters that work in these occupations.
John McCormick’s images have been published in many national and international magazines, newspapers, books and journals. His photographs have been exhibited in both group and solo exhibitions at both regional and State galleries in both Australia, the USA and India.
