Murray McKean Bio

Murray McKean has been photographing for over 25 years and is one of Newcastle's leading commercial photographers, Specialising in industrial and Scientific work.
Having been trained as a RAAF photographer he then spent 4 years at Melbourne's RMIT and Studied towards a degree in photography (arts).

In 1996 he left the RAAF and Joined BHP as a photographer at their Research Laboratories in Newcastle. He remained there until 1999 and then commenced his own business called VISCOM Creative Imaging operating out of BHP Billiton Minerals Technology Centre.

A flexible working relationship allows Murray to photograph for other clients that include Advertising, Architecture and more recently projects in Malaysia and South Africa.

He has won several Photographic awards at local, State and National levels through the AIPP and has had his worked exhibited in 3 joint shows with the Hunter Professional Photographer Group. He has also exhibited at Sydney's premier Black and White Gallery, Point Light called "Emergence 7”

The photographic exhibitions Steel Life (Lovett Gallery) and Hot Slag ( Newcastle Reional Art Gallery) are the result of a 4-year project that has turned out to be the job of a lifetime

Murray has for the last 16 years been a part-time TAFE teacher in Newcastle conducting both traditional and digital courses.
