Shani Miller was born in Albury, Australia.
Shani discovered photography at the age of 14 when she won a silver medal in the Sydney Morning Heralds school photography awards.
She continued her photographic studies at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After this, she travelled and worked in varying locations throughout the world for the following five years - working in England, Turkey, Greece, and Japan. On her return to Australia she completed a Bachelor of Applied Science Photography at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, where she won the Ilford award for Best Black and White folio in 2001 and the highest scoring print in Advertising in the Victorian Student Photographer of the Year awards 2003.
She has exhibited twice at the COFA gallery Paddington and also at Kazumi gallery Prahran. Her research in Daguerreotype Holography has been published by the Daguerrean Society in the USA and also been presented at an annual Holography symposium in Wales.
Since graduating from RMIT she has worked as a Medical Photographer / Graphic Image Specialist at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne and at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She is currently attempting to establish a mobile Medical Illustration service in the Northern Rivers and Tweed Shire areas.
