Exhibition
Artist of the Month - July
James McMillan's paintings combine multi layers of acrylics, spray-paint and ink, juxtaposing them with his own surreal and sometimes moody interpretations of life. His paintings taste like a sunday morning of spontaneity and freedom. Mixing expressionist drips and swipes of vibrant colour with bold graphics and intricate renderings of characters & nature along with his own organic font and stylised text.
I am so far removed from 9-5... cause I like to be. The sun shines, The rain falls. I eat vegie pie from some alternative Byron Bay food shack. I see weird people, I like it. Afternoons are mixed, surfing Tallows beach with the shredders or going for a glide with the families and freestylers at The Pass. When dusk falls it's a drive home, over the hills and through the forest, into tangerine sunsets and past faceless cows. Tofu and some other thing for dinner. I have no TV or radio reception, so it's music and painting. The midnight oil burns, my brain turns. Most time it's procrastinating, but when the subconscious takes charge and the heart lifts, I paint! Time flies, colours drip, and it feels good. I can sleep all dreamy and peace till tomorrow. Loosely, my paintings are a reflection of the reality of my subconscious.
