' My work is populated by mythic creatures, animals and small beings that wonder by, steer boats, float thru the space and set forth off on seemenly solitary journeys. Some make contact, others take their leave and some just wait patiently. For me they are about elusivness and truth ' says Hillary Herrmann about her work featuring presently at Retrospect Galleries for the month of May. Her work is about the every day. It is anything and everything that surrounds her life. It may be a deeply personal dilemma, encounter or situation, the intimacies of the domestic world, her daughter Frieda and the farm where she lives in rural Australia and of course, her two dogs, Bindy and Star. All of this is sifted through, distilled and transmuted, utill finally the artwork transcends the personal and offers up strange, delicate, whimsical, oft times darkly intimate mythologies .
