Exhibition
OPENING: 6pm - Friday 30 March
Exhibition runs March 30th - April 11th
Since the development of photography as an accessible medium of artistic expression in the late nineteenth century, the notion of capturing light has fascinated artists, scientists and writers. This group show highlights the emergence of a trend within photography that is witness to a burgeoning renaissance of the hand-made. What results is a distinctive combination of technical prowess with a rendered intimacy often unexpected from the photographic medium. Some of these often forgotten methods include, camera obscura, photogram, cyanotypes, hand-colouring and engraving. In this new exhibition we bring you a selection of national photo-media artists that have embraced un-orthodox methods in photography heralding a type of cultural manifesto in celebration of slow photography. Artists include Ben Ali Ong, Alana Hampton, Alberto Sanchez, Renata Buziak, Mari Hirata, Ray Cook, Mandana Mapar, Henri van Noordenburg, Doble&Strong, Thor Engelstad,Toby Burrows, Yavuz Erkan, Perran Costi, Justin Ealand, Virginia Miller and Kate Bernauer. This exhibition is part of the 2012 Queensland Festival of Photography and will be officially opened at 6pm - Friday 30 March, by Ray Cook, artist and photography lecturer at QCA - Griffith University, Brisbane.
