A new cutting edge art gallery situated at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast fuses the experience of two Gallery Directors with diverse backgrounds, and brings together an exciting stable of artists in an environment of fresh energy and ideas.

The new operation, Retrospect Galleries, Broadbeach, sees Bree Delian, founder of one of northern NSW’ most successful commercial art ventures, Retrospect Galleries Byron Bay, joining forces with respected Queensland art consultant, Lorraine Pilgrim.

Working together the pair say they aim to develop a vibrant cultural space that defies the typical gallery stereotype. The official opening of the Gallery and launch of their first show will provide a taste of what’s in store throughout 2011.  This is an event where the Gallery is throwing their doors open to the public. Everyone is invited to come along on Friday January 28, starting from 6pm.  Local Gold Coast identity, Con Nikiforides will officially open the gallery on the night.

This premiere show will go by the name of Fusion, as a reflection of the basis of Delian and Pilgrim’s new partnership and the new combination of artists and ideas.

Artists include; Anthony Lister, Artslave, Alberto Sanchez, Courtney Brims, Dave Groom, Dave Smith, Deb Mostert, Di West, Doug Bartlett, Donna Malone, Fiona Kennedy Altoft, Jan Van Dijk, Jeff Raglus, Jules Hunt, Kareena Zerefos, Kathy Mackey, Katka Adams, Kelly O'Dempsey, Kirstin Reed, Lisa Lee, Llewellyn Skye, Lyndy Delian, Mari Hirata, Mia Taninaka, Mike Chavez, Michelle Dawson, Nathaniel Kiwi, Nick Batchelor, Nikky Morgan-Smith, Perran Costi, Robert Mars, Ross Tamlin, Sam Creyton, Shane Martin, Shayle Flesser, Simon Roots and Stephen Phibbs.

Delian, says, “I am really excited to learn from Lorraine and have someone with that wealth of experience around. It’s a wonderful opportunity.”

“I have always been impressed by her integrity and how deeply she cares for the artists she represents.  She is incredibly committed to working with artists to develop their careers, and to encouraging emerging artists and artforms,” she continues.

“I would be happy after 40 years if I had the respect that Lorraine has engendered from artists, collectors and institutions.”

Pilgrim adds, “The collaboration between Bree and myself has presented a wonderful opportunity for me to extend what I see as my role in the arts today.”

“I am fiercely passionate about the arts and developing artists and their practice. Bree and I share this passion, and I am looking forward to us working together every day, and doing what we believe in.”

“Bree has impressed me immensely with her dedication to her cause and the support she has given to the arts. It is rare indeed to find a young person who is so devoted and single minded in her approach to her chosen vocation.”

“I can’t wait to get going and enjoy our new venture,” she concludes.

Bree Delian started Retrospect Galleries, Byron Bay, six years ago, at the age of 29.  During this time she has developed the business into a thriving gallery and exhibition space showcasing the work of local North Coast NSW and southern QLD practitioners alongside the best of young cutting edge Australian and international artists, at purpose built premises in a prime location on Jonson Street.

Lorraine Pilgrim has enjoyed a highly successful arts curatorial career, spanning 40 years in private art galleries and studios.  She is a highly sought after art consultant, renowned for her perceptive and sympathetic eye for new and emerging artists, and is a former President of the Crafts Council of Queensland.

Retrospect Galleries, Broadbeach is located at the corner of Elizabeth Street and Oracle Boulevard, Broadbeach, on the Gold Coast.

The new Gallery features 124 square metres of exhibition space, a gallery shop, café and fully licensed wine and tapas bar, in one of the world’s most desirable architect designed ocean front beachside precincts, the new Oracle at Broadbeach.

The official opening of the Gallery and launch of Fusion will be held on Friday January 28, from 6pm to 9pm.
