Great to see Retrospect Galleries in an article on G&T online.  For those of you who don't know, G&T is an independently run Australian lifestyle magazine based in Brisbane, showcasing some of Australia’s best and brightest talent.  A great site and full of inspiration!

...Just like the range of artists and styles, the gallery has a diverse range of work for sale to suit all budgets. The gallery supports emerging artists whose prices are very reasonable, meaning art lovers can purchase highly skilled original work at a great price. Additionally, Retrospect represent nationally recognised artists whose work sells at prices aimed toward the higher end of the contemporary market...

... The galleries don’t like to be fenced in and as a result, showcase a wide variety of works ranging from street/urban art, through to the finest of draughtsmanship and painterly works...

NEWS | Coast Confidential, Acrobats Soar High

What started with a Kodamatic camera in Alberto Sanchez's native Spain when he was a child has morphed into a multitude of awards, critical acclaim and, on Friday night an exhibition at Boradbeach's Retrospect Galleries. Check out the photos of some of our guests who attented the opening night.

"Growing up in an environment where performance and dance were very much part of day-to-day living has given a Spanish-born photographic artist a unique perspective..."

Marina Saint Martin interviewed Alberto Sanchez in 'photofinish' for the Artworld page for Paradise magazine.  Showing selected works from Sanchez's new body of works for his upcoming show, El Duelo, opening this Friday at Retrospect Galleries, Broadbeach she discusses with Sanchez the inspirations behind his works and his background that influences him to this day.

"... the series portrays not only these amazing acrobats, but is a celebration of the human body and human spirit to strive and to succeed.  All are presented in a 'timeless, surreal scenario', very much like the performance itself..."

    ALBERTO SANCHEZ | EL DUELO

Friday 19 August to Thursday 1 September

    Opening 6pm Friday August 19

El Duelo, or 'The Duel' is intended as a metaphor for the struggle between human ambition and our infinite quest towards perfectionism. In this new series of photographs by Alberto Sanchez, circus acrobats are layered with juxtaposed backgrounds, mirroring this deeper challenge. The perfection and beauty of the human figure is captured by Alberto’s bold and arresting photographs and then magnified by his hand colouring. As paint drips and dribbles – the figures maintain a powerfully elegant composure.

It's the mystery that surrounds a photo that photographer Toby Burrows likes to focus on in his work.

"I love the anonymity the obscurity... the idea that you don't know the whole story," he says.

Four of Burrows' works are currently on display in shutterspeed...

    New Works | Alberto Sanchez

Award winning photographer Alberto Sanchez brings us some amazing new works as part of our Shutterspeed exhibition in our Byron Bay gallery.  The artworks are a colourful and reflective vision of Tokyo, a place Alberto was fascinated with when he travelled there. Alberto's hand painting on each photograph makes each piece unique and enhances the emotion you feel when viewing.  From colourful vending machines to architecture and all the quirky objects we find in Japan, Alberto has captured the bright spirited nature of the Japanese city.

'Shutterspeed', featuring Alberto's Tokyo series opens Friday 11 March 6pm at the Byron Bay gallery.

You can view Alberto's works here.

    InRetrospect | Petits Travaux 2010

At the end of each year we look forward to presenting our annual Petits Travaux, ‘smalls’ show, featuring over 300 unique artworks from 34 artists, each measuring 25cm x 25cm.  This is our chance to showcase some of our most popular artists from the year in miniature form and at matching miniature cost, and introduce you to some new faces.  This year people loved Simon McLean’s quirky illustrations and humourous text, which sold out within a few hours.  Other favourites included Craig Martin’s whimsical paintings, Mia Taninaka’s works on wood and Susan Gorley’s retro inspired screenprints.
